Vancouver firefighters rescued one person and six dogs from a burning house Sunday afternoon in the 4600 block of N.E. 47th Street.

Firefighters were sent to the home shortly after 2 p.m. People were reportedly trapped inside the house.

The first firefighters arrived within two minutes and saw smoke coming from the garage and attic, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Firefighters spoke to the homeowner, who said one person was still inside. Firefighters went inside the smoke-filled house and found the person just inside the front door carrying two dogs.

Firefighters escorted the person outside. The person was evaluated for smoke inhalation and was taken away for treatment. The injuries are not life threatening, according to firefighters.

Firefighters connected a hose to a fire hydrant and extended the hose into the garage to put out the fire. The fire was out in about 10 minutes.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross came to assist two people displaced by the fire. Two battalion chiefs and 17 firefighters responded to the blaze.
