RIDGEFIELD – A record-breaking $15,000 for scholarships was raised by Spudder alumni at the 45th annual Golden Grad luncheon. The monies came from the silent auction, cash raffle, 312 registrations and cash donations.

The fundraising luncheon was held May 19 at Ridgefield High School in the auxiliary gym. Alumni from the classes of 1947 through 1974 took part, with some coming from as far away as Georgia and Alabama.

“What a joyous reunion of gray-haired Spudders this was,” said Michele Mongrain Uplinger, Class of 1971. “Seeing childhood friends again and catching up was great fun, but raising money for education? That made it even better.”

Ridgefield Golden Grads have offered scholarships for 13 years. The scholarships are exclusively for education in the trades and vocations at Clark College. Any Ridgefield High School graduate, no matter what year they graduated, may apply. Applications can be made at Clark College’s scholarship office.

The Class of 1971 served as this year’s host, with Pete Bartel supervising the committee of 18 volunteers. Sue Dixon (1972) managed the silent auction and Greg Jones (1971) emceed. Next year, the Class of 1972 hosts, with Dixon as chair.
