The light rain that fell Monday was refreshing and, depending on your location, was enough to penetrate the earth a few inches. As of 4 p.m. Monday, Vancouver had received less than a tenth of an inch. The farther north you went the more rain was measured. Other locations around our county had a good quarter-inch of rain and upward of nearly a half-inch in the foothills.
After a risk of a shower early today, skies will be slow to clear, and humidity will rise. High pressure builds inland strongly Wednesday, giving us highs around 85 degrees. At 4 p.m. Monday Vancouver was 68 degrees, some 16 degrees below average.
Thursday through Monday highs will be in the 90s. It is possible we will have a day in the upper 90s. What a way to start the last month of summer, with a blast of heat.
As I look out the window writing this column late Monday afternoon, I am all smiles as I watch a steady, light rain falling. That is unusual for July 29 as there are only a handful of days in more than 125 years of records with rain on that day. The last time we had measurable rain on July 29 was 23 years ago in 2001 with .14 of an inch.
