Letter: Be wary of Trump future

By Susan Offerman, Battle Ground

Donald Trump will never leave office if elected. The question is, after Trump’s corrupt bid to remain in office in 2020, do you think if he is elected president in 2024 that he will ever allow himself to be removed from that office again? He has the Supreme Court in his pocket and will easily do as Putin has done to remain in office indefinitely. Trump will amend the Constitution to allow more terms or he could simply “delay” an election indefinitely as an “official act” per his new “conclusive and preclusive” authority.

The (Western) Roman Empire lasted almost 500 years and was ended by internal weakness and corruption, making it easy prey for conquering armies. Some historians say Christianity contributed heavily (beware evangelicals).

The United States isn’t even 250 years old and our democracy is dangerously close to collapse from internal strife and greed for power. Do you think Trump, like Theodosius, might “gift” each of his children portions of this country to rule upon his death? All hail Donald Trump Jr.!
