Letter: Support fire district request

By Greg Hendricks, VANCOUVER

If you, a family member or friend live or work in Fire District 6, here are some facts: Calls for service have increased 33 percent in five years; since 2010, the population has grown 25 percent; the cost to provide quality fire, rescue and emergency medical services have been on the rise. Yet, revenue from the current operating levy has decreased from $1.50 to $1.15 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Jonathan McCloy had it wrong in his letter to the editor July 19 (“Reject fire district request,” Our Readers’ Views, July 19). This levy is about providing professional firefighters and paramedics the tools they need to provide us the services that may save your life or that of a neighbor or friend.

I urge a “yes” vote on Proposition 5.
