Letter: New roundabout is travesty

Despite overwhelming objection by 10,500 daily commuters, local residents and the public at-large, the Washington State Department of Transportation has commenced construction of a roundabout at Highway 503 and North Creek Road. Newly minted flyers have been mailed reiterating the initial flyers’ outright lies and obfuscation allegations for justification. WSDOT’s website data shows over 700 traffic fatalities last year and at the new roundabout site there has been one over the past six-plus years.

A sterling soon-to-be monument to how unelected state employees can arrogantly run rampant over the people they are supposed to serve. Roundabouts are not the issue; location is the issue. This is a single lane in each direction with a 50 mph speed limit. Included in the 10,500 daily vehicles are 700-plus tandem gravel trucks entering and departing a quarry.
