LONGVIEW — The Portland Police Bureau bomb squad detonated up a suspicious device that washed ashore near Martin’s Bar at Lions Day Park in Woodland on Sunday.

Cowlitz County Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill said people alerted authorities around 6:30 p.m. Sunday of a suspicious a 3-inch-long black pipe a half-inch in diameter with a fuse.

Brightbill said the item was homemade and likely came in with the Columbia River tide.

After a Cowlitz County sheriff’s deputy inspected the pipe, the bomb squad was called to the scene and detonated it on site.

No one was injured.
