Letter: Symbols of patriotism are lacking

God Bless America. It was the Fourth of July, our nation’s birthday, a celebration of our freedom and ideals. My husband and I drove around the city sure we would see our flag, Old Glory, waving to us from every household we passed. Such was not the case!

In the hundreds of blocks of homes, wherein people are living the good life this country provides, we discovered only seven flags on display.

What a terrible response to our freedom from our citizens, who seem to have forgotten the blessings living in this nation provides through the Bill of Rights: Freedom of speech and religion; the right to bear arms, etc. We have freedom. We can become our dreams. We can strive for success or not and even then, the government, because it is the people’s choice, provides resources and food for all in all situations.

It is time for every American to stand and be counted. We are Americans first and will stand up for our country.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
