Letter: Stop extreme rhetoric

By Bill Fickett, Vancouver
Published: July 24, 2024, 6:00am

On the eve of the Clark County Republican Lincoln Dinner, The Columbian published an editorial dismissing our endorsed candidate as an “extremist MAGA” Republican and inferring that the members of the Clark County Republicans were also.

Can we stop the name-calling? We had a presidential candidate almost lose his life, one of our fellow citizens did, and others were injured. Words matter, and using “extreme” words can incite a mentally impaired individual to take “extreme” actions.

Let’s debate the issues and stop the name-calling — by The Columbian and others that use their letters to the editor to espouse extreme descriptions of candidates they don’t like.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
