Levi Kitchen’s dream of winning a pro motocross title on his home track will have to wait another year.

A poor run in the first moto led Kitchen to place sixth overall in the 250 Class at the Washougal Motocross Pro Motocross event Saturday at Washougal MX Park.

Kitchen placed 12th in the first moto Saturday, putting him in a big hole. He rebounded with a fourth-place run in the second moto, leaving him in sixth in the overall standings.

Season points leader Haiden Deegan earned the overall title after finishing second in the first moto and first in the second.

That was good enough to edge out Tom Vialle, who placed second after a 1-2 moto finish. Jo Shimoda, Ryder DiFrancesco and Pierce Brown placed third, fourth and fifth respectively.

“We made a little different setup (for Moto 2), and it made a world of difference,” Deegan said. “Got a good start, made the pass and just rode my own race. It’s nice to keep the Washougal (win) streak going (after winning last year) and put it back on top of the box.”

Preston Boespflug of Battle Ground placed 40th in the 41-rider field.

The finish dropped Kitchen into third place in the 250 Class motocross standings behind leader Deegan and Vialle. However, Kitchen remains in second behind Deegan in the Combined Super Motocross standings, which combines the supercross and motocross seasons.

Chase Sexton won both motos in the 450 Class to race to his third consecutive event title in that class. Aaron Plessinger (2-3) was second, followed by Jason Anderson (4-2), Hunter Lawrence (5-4) and Justin Cooper (3-7).

“It feels nice” to get another 1-1 win, Sexton said. “I wanted to get another win before the break (in the schedule) to get some momentum. I haven’t been feeling the greatest the past few days, so, it’s time for a rest. I was able to find a flow today and ride my own lines, and it worked out well, even though I wasn’t feeling my best.”

Seth Crotty of Vancouver placed 10th in the 250 Class consolation. Preston Wittkopp (Vancouver) was 11th and Chase Reid (Camas) was 15th.

The series will be back on the track Aug. 10 for the Unadilla MX in New Berlin, N.Y.
