Letter: Vote to support democracy

By Ben Johnson, VANCOUVER
Published: July 20, 2024, 6:00am

We either keep our democracy, which enables all American citizens to be stakeholders in our government, or we become subjects in an autocracy.

Joe Biden, a truly elected Democratic president, will continue to provide us with all of the protections of our rights and freedoms guaranteed by America’s Constitution.

Donald Trump, an avowed vengeful candidate, has plans to change the Constitution to facilitate his intended leadership style. Without guarantees for rights and freedoms, one becomes a subject, without rights of choice or dissent.

We all have the choice to decide how we want to be governed. This could be the last chance in which we will be able to vote freely.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
