Fireworks are a problem in Clark County. They adversely impact veterans, people with respiratory illnesses, people who work and lose sleep, people who must try to deal with traumatized animals. It creates fire hazards. It drastically impacts our air quality. The two weeks or more of constant explosions. The law allowing fireworks to be used only on the Fourth of July is too difficult for law enforcement agencies to enforce. Why must Clark County citizens be forced to live with this?
Here is your answer: profit. If you read the minutes from one Clark County Council meeting from last year, you will see how much money was taken in by Clark County in taxes. You will see the profit made by the commercial vendors. Profit before people.
Several states have now decided to ban the sale and use of fireworks. They have instead invested in drone shows to celebrate the Fourth. What a good idea — something everyone can enjoy. No one would need to suffer from the impact of the noise, smoke, loss of sleep or risk of fire.
I would donate to a fund to have Clark County switch to such a plan. Maybe I could finally enjoy celebrating the Fourth.
