STEHEKIN — Level 3 evacuations were expanded north toward Stehekin and more trails were closed this week as the Pioneer Fire continues to grow.

The Level 3 zone — the most urgent of evacuation levels — ends less than a half-mile from the remote community at the west end of Lake Chelan and includes at least three structures, according to Chelan County’s emergency evacuation map.

The fire, which began June 8, has grown to more than 25,500 acres and is considered 14% contained, according to Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 12.

Evacuation levels were increased Tuesday. Stehekin remains under a Level 1 evacuation notice — be aware.

Also on Tuesday, crews burned vegetation as a preventative measure on Round Mountain near Moore Point five miles south of Stehekin.
