Letter: Project 2025 would roll back rights

By Katherine Gardner, VANCOUVER

Project 2025 will cement women as second-class citizens in this country. Single mothers will be targeted. Women will no longer have the ability to determine when and how often they become pregnant, putting their education and careers at risk. Not only will it continue the rollback of our access to reproductive health care, it will open the door to women losing further rights.

For example, it was only 50 years ago that the Equal Credit Opportunity Act was passed, which allowed women in the U.S. to open bank accounts on their own; Project 2025 creates a slippery slope back to that restrictive past.

And men, don’t think this won’t affect you. With no guarantee of rising wages (in fact, for example, Project 2025 allows for eliminating overtime regulations and removing the system of multiple tax brackets), you will be left to shoulder the financial burden alone in the event of an unexpected pregnancy with your partner. How many double-income households could survive that?

Project 2025 thrives on shackling both men and women to a dangerous future; it does not want to protect life, it wants to control you.
