The man accused of fatally stabbing a woman July 7 in east Vancouver has died from self-inflicted stab wounds, according to Vancouver police.
Clark County Superior Court records identify the man as Starsky Kasiano, 45. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his official cause and manner of death, police said in a Monday update.
Investigators said he stabbed Dolores Jones, 42, of Vancouver, after an argument at the Fishers Mill Apartments, 1000 S.E. 160th Ave. The medical examiner’s office previously said Jones died from multiple stab wounds to the torso.
Kasiano and Jones were in a relationship and had a child in common. They shared an apartment at the complex, according to a search warrant affidavit.
Police sought to search their apartment after the July 7 call. The affidavit states investigators had probable cause for second-degree domestic violence murder.
Several witnesses called 911 to report that a man had stabbed a woman in a common area of the apartment complex. One witness reported hearing a woman screaming for help before he saw a man stab the woman, kick her and stab her again. The witness said the man then cut himself, the affidavit states.
When officers arrived, they found Jones on the ground bleeding. Kasiano stood nearby. They also said they saw Kasiano cut himself, according to court records.
Police used their Taser weapons to disarm Kasiano, then provided medical aid, the affidavit states.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. Kasiano was taken to an area hospital for treatment, where he later died, the police department said.
When officers checked the couple’s apartment, they found the sliding door was shattered, and they saw an ax inside with blood on it, according to the affidavit.
