Letter: Biden should step aside

We all know why Donald Trump wants to be president. He wants to prove to diehard fans and non-believers alike that he’s the greatest man who ever lived. But why does Joe Biden want that job?

Biden has been involved in American government for most of his life. He served faithfully, if not notably, in the U.S. Senate for 36 years. He was, for eight years, vice president in the administration of Barack Obama. And he was our country’s able, if not outstanding, leader for the past four years. But his halting footsteps, verbal confusion, difficulty in formulating clear ideas, and other signs of old age, things which are clear to us, must be even more obvious to him. So why does he persist? Is he afraid to admit the unmistakable truth, that his day has passed? Or does he really believe that he’s the only one who can beat Donald Trump? Whatever the reason, he must be persuaded that time has caught up with him.

I voted for Joe in 2020, and I’ll vote for him this year if he’s on the ticket. But I think it’s time for him to perform the greatest service he could possibly do for our country and step aside so that a younger, sharper, and more fit person, man or woman, can lead the Democratic Party to victory and lead our country to its destiny.
