The weekend is now upon us, and the weather scene is pretty much status quo, as strong high pressure continues its firm grip on the West Coast. I don’t foresee much of a change in the next week at least. This means our high temperatures will dance around the 90-degree mark. As fair-weather winds shift ever-so delicately from the northwest to north will determine whether we land in the mid- to upper-80s or with more northerly winds at 90 degrees and higher.
I could broad-brush the pattern and say highs in the 85-to-95-degree range. The chance of measurable rain is zero unless by some creative leap in the atmosphere a stray thunderstorm wanders our way at some point. Expect mainly hot and dry weather to continue until further notice. Of course, sooner or later the weather pattern will temporarily change but not for now.
We are well into the dog days of summer, and all I can think of from many years in the past are cooling off in the water somewhere, hot dogs, potato chips, watermelon, fresh lemonade and lounging in a comfortable chair. I try to forget the years of no air conditioning with noisy fans blowing all night, mosquitos, sunburns and burnt feet walking on scorching beach sands.
No complaints really, only plenty of memories of summer weather. Once an avid gardener, I have hardly any memories of not so good growing weather or a “green tomato summer” but I believe in 1983 it was close to a green tomato summer. Plenty of unusual rain and perhaps our first wake up call to something called El Nino.
