PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center announced Wednesday it will partner with Lifepoint Rehabilitation to build and operate a new stand-alone, inpatient rehabilitation facility in Vancouver.

The facility will provide inpatient rehabilitation services for adults who have experienced loss of function or disability due to stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and neurological disorders, according to a news release from PeaceHealth.

PeaceHealth spokeswoman Debra Carnes said the hospital has not yet identified a location for the proposed facility. Still, construction is expected to begin in 2025, with a planned opening date in 2027, according to PeaceHealth.

Upon completion of the project, the building will have 50 private rooms, tripling the current patient capacity of the existing 14-bed rehabilitation unit at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

“We are excited about this partnership,” PeaceHealth Chief Hospital Executive Cherelle Montanye said in a statement. “Both PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation share a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care, and this project ensures those in our community who must currently seek care out of the area will have the ability to receive care locally.”

This is the second partnership between PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a division of Lifepoint Health, which is based in Brentwood, Tenn. Lifepoint Health is a health care delivery network consisting of community hospitals, rehabilitation and behavioral health hospitals, and additional sites of care, according to its website.

In March 2023, the two organizations announced a plan to construct a stand-alone, 50-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Springfield, Ore., to open in 2026.

“We are pleased to once again partner with PeaceHealth as we expand access to critically needed inpatient rehabilitation services for patients in Vancouver and the surrounding region,” David Stark, chief operating officer for Lifepoint Rehabilitation, said in a statement.

The new Vancouver inpatient facility is the latest in PeaceHealth’s expansion efforts across Clark County.

The nonprofit just completed the first phase of a redesigned emergency department, which will open to patients Tuesday.

The first phase includes a new 24-bed unit for patients who require additional observation, a registration lobby, nurse stations and an ambulance bay.

Once the second phase is completed in 2025, the entire emergency department will encompass 37,000 square feet, with 56 treatment rooms, 11 transitional rooms, four trauma rooms, 24 observation rooms and eight ambulance ports.
