Letter: Time to ban fireworks

By Jess Rubenstein, Vancouver
Published: July 12, 2024, 6:00am

At what point will the Clark County Council realize that a fireworks ban is needed for all of Clark County? The old excuse that so many charities rely on fireworks sales to raise money is no longer valid when every year the local fire districts are the ones that must pay, due to wall-to-wall fire calls. On the Fourth of July, I listened on my scanner as call after call for grass fires or dumpster fires or even a couple of house fires had every fire district running from call to call.

What will it take before the council realizes that the dangers caused by fireworks greatly outweigh any benefit that the various charities earn? Please do not wait until we have a July 5th where we bemoan the loss of life due to a fireworks fire.
