Letter: Supreme Court undermines America

By Roy Wilson, Vancouver
Published: July 10, 2024, 6:00am

Why should anyone trust our current Supreme Court? They do not respect legal precedent (Roe v. Wade), value money over Americans (Citizens United), accept lavish bribes and have no ethics. In the Watergate era, Richard Nixon infamously argued if the president does it, it’s not illegal, even an obvious crime. Today’s Supreme Court apparently agrees. The Founders must be rolling over in their graves.

Now, thanks to the court’s disregard for our Constitution, we must ask: Republicans, do you really want a criminal — convicted of 34 felonies by a jury of his peers — leading us with near dictatorial powers? If so, I feel sorry for you. You have forgotten what being an American means. Perhaps you should consider relocating to Russia or North Korea. I’m sure you would be much happier with their political system than you seem to be with ours. Or maybe you’re just waiting for this horrible court to turn America into a new version of Russia, which they seem to be well on the way to doing.

We are on the verge of destruction, and if Trump is elected again, we can all kiss our freedom, decency and morality goodbye.
