Letter: Biden should step aside

Our country’s political divisions were widening, and foreign conflicts were escalating. The press relentlessly criticized him. His term as president had noticeably aged him. But advisers close to him wanted him to run again.

I’m referring to George Washington. Weeks before the national election, he notified the American people he would not seek reelection. He retired with dignity and grace.

I would like to encourage Joe Biden to be inspired by George Washington, to retire with dignity and grace, and to give his support to any of the younger, experienced party members who can take on the role of president.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
