A woman was killed in a stabbing Sunday evening in Vancouver.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, officers were called at 7:45 p.m. to a disturbance in the 1000 block of Southeast 160th Avenue in the Cascade Highlands area. Callers reported that a man had stabbed a woman and himself. Police said the man and woman knew each other.

Officers gave the woman medical aid, but she died at the scene.

Officers also treated the man, who was later taken to an area hospital. He remained hospitalized Monday with life-threatening injuries, according to police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

Vancouver police have not released the man’s identity. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the woman’s name and cause and manner of death.

The Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating this as a homicide, meaning it resulted from another person’s deliberate action. The ruling does not make any judgments about criminal culpability.
