Joe Biden is 81. As president he has championed and passed numerous bipartisan bills (infrastructure, CHIPS, and gun safety); passed the Inflation Reduction Act that will help the planet and improve most Americans’ health care; got us through the pandemic economically much better than most countries; and led the international coalition to support Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
Biden has a vision of an inclusive, united America. Biden did horribly in the recent debate, but I don’t worry about his ability to govern because he is surrounded by skilled professionals who share his vision and follow our Constitution and laws. They will be there if he falters. Neurologists tell us that as people age, parts of their brain shrink and they forget words more easily, but parts of their brain grow such that they tend to see the bigger picture better and have more empathy — two great leadership qualities.
With Biden, I don’t worry about the peaceful transfer of power, losing our institutions, cozying up to dictators, breaking our promises or surrounding himself with loyalists that trash our Capitol and our norms. I see stability, not chaos. So, let’s drop the worry and focus on issues that really matter.
