The senators and representatives, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
In the state of Washington the text of the oath is as follows: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the state of Washington, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office (name of office) to the best of my ability.”
The founding document of this United States of America is the Constitution. That is the document that should be posted in every classroom in every school in this nation; it should be our Constitution and perhaps The Declaration of Independence. The Ten Commandments should not be posted as some state legislatures and governors recently mandated into law. Our Constitution must be our safeguard against violators.
