Letter: No choice at all

Let us be clear: The USA is not a democracy. In 1824, 1876, 1888, 2000, and 2016, the loser of the popular vote won the presidency. In what world does the loser of a popular vote become president? Not in a democratic world.

The minority interests have always ruled in this country and will obviously continue to rule in a system where representation is manipulated and does not reflect the demographics. Our choice this year between pest and cholera shows us the sickness of a system run by demented or sick old men. The two-party system only produces winners and losers. It is time to get rid of the Electoral College and to break the power of the two parties. A choice between a criminal, narcissistic ignoramus and a well-meaning but floundering dotard is no choice at all.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
