A grease fire at a restaurant forced Clark County Fire District 6 to close Highway 99 near 63rd Street early Tuesday morning to battle the blaze.

Employees on the opening shift at Don Pedro’s Mexican restaurant, 6501 N.E. Highway 99 in Hazel Dell, reported wires and grease on fire. They were not able to put out the fire with extinguishers, according to a statement from the fire district, and called 911 about 5:30 a.m.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office closed both lanes of northbound Highway 99 while firefighters battled the stubborn blaze that continued to re-ignite.

The fire district and Vancouver Fire were able to knock down the fire in about 10 minutes but remained on scene for almost two hours.

No one was injured and no damage estimate is available.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
