Letter: Energy bills bring sticker shock

By Mark Swenson, Camas

On Jan. 24, I opened my NW Natural monthly bill. I knew because of the late December and early January weather the bill would be higher than normal. As I scanned the bill, I noticed two new line items. WA Climate Act fee — $62.21 and WA Climate Act Credit Jan-Mar — ($17.26), a net total charge of $44.95 or 17 percent increase in the overall bill.

There was no explanation in the insert other than a donation form for their “Share the Warmth” program. Did NW Natural think no one would notice the WA Climate Act expense added to the bill?

You can easily determine my vote on Initiative 2117 if it is on the ballot.
