LONGVIEW — Debris from a landslide south of Kelso on Wednesday halted Amtrak passenger rail service between Portland and Seattle — the third slide in recent days.
According to Janet Matkin from the Washington Department of Transportation, the landslide was caused by recent bad weather and a housing development “on top of a bluff” in Kelso early Wednesday in the same location as the previous two.
Passenger rail service should return to normal at 8:30 a.m. Friday after BNSF, the owner of the tracks, called for a 48-hour moratorium on passenger rail service, their protocol after landslides.
All trains north of Seattle and south of Portland are operating normally, Amtrak’s website reports.
