A strong finish by Jalise Chatman powered Ridgefield girls basketball to a crucial win Thursday.
Chatman scored 20 of her 30 points in the second half as Ridgefield beat Hudson’s Bay 62-53 in a clash of teams battling for postseason berths in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
Chatman made four 3-pointers. Her sister Janess Chatman scored 13 points, including nine in a pivotal third quarter.
Trailing 25-23 at halftime, the host Spudders outscored the Eagles 20-15 in the third quarter. Ridgefield then protected its lead by making 7 of 8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Ridgefield improved to 13-1 overall and 10-1 in league play, one-half game behind Columbia River.
Alana Stephens scored 25 points for Hudson’s Bay (11-4, 8-4). The Eagles, who had won five games in a row, are in third place one game ahead of Mark Morris in the race for four berths to the district playoffs.
COLUMBIA RIVER 55, R.A. LONG 40 — Gracie Glavin scored 17 points, Emma Iniguez added 16 points and the Rapids stayed atop the 2A GSHL with a home win.
Columbia River (12-5 overall, 11-1 2A GSHL) outscored the Lumberjills 18-8 in the second quarter to lead 31-21 at halftime.
Alauna Brown and Breyelle Box each scored 13 points for R.A. Long (4-13, 2-11).
UNION 71, EVERGREEN 45 — Brooklynn Haywood scored 38 points as the Titans rolled to a non-league home win.
Haywood, a sharp-shooting sophomore guard, made six of her seven 3-pointers in the first half. Ava Smith scored 15 points and made three of Union’s 12 3-pointers.
Zoey Robards added 10 points for Union (14-2), which had two starters out.
Adrian Wright scored 13 points to lead Evergreen (7-9).
FORT VANCOUVER 45, HOCKINSON 42 — Trian Clark scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half as the Trappers earned a close 2A GSHL road win.
April Cruz added 12 points for Fort Vancouver, which trailed 21-17 halftime.
Siena Brown had 27 points, eight rebounds and six steals for Hockinson.
PRAIRIE 68, BATTLE GROUND 46 — Emma Smith scored 23 points as the Falcons earned a non-league win.
Claire Smith scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half as Prairie (6-8) gathered its third win in four games.
Ahead 29-24 at halftime, Emma Smith led the Falcons in the second half with 17 points, including three 3-pointers.
Marissa Loveall and Skylar Fridriksson each scored 12 points for Battle Ground (3-13).
