Boys basketball: Columbia River gets key road win over R.A. Long

Columbia River boys basketball earned a key road win, beating R.A. Long 55-47 on Wednesday in Longview.

Aaron Hoey scored 15 points and Miles Fitzwilson had 11 as the win keeps the Rapids in second place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League and avenges a 67-56 home loss to R.A. Long on Dec. 19.

Columbia River improved to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in league play, one-half game ahead of third-place Ridgefield. R.A. Long fell to 7-3 in league play.

Trailing 28-21 at halftime, the Rapids outscored the Lumberjacks 16-5 in the third quarter.

R.A. Long was within 48-47 with 1:30 to play, but the Rapids got a 3-pointer from Fitzwilson, clamped down on defense and made their free throws down the stretch.

TraMayne Jenkins led the Lumberjacks with 13 points.

HOCKINSON 67, FORT VANCOUVER 54 — Ethan Wall scored 16 points as the Hawks earned a 2A GSHL road win.

Hockinson outscored the Trappers 20-9 in the second quarter to take a 35-27 lead and held on through the second half. Andrew Meyer scored six of his 10 points in the third quarter.

Jayden Parquet scored 14 points and Liam Cvitkovich added 10 points for Fort Vancouver.

WASHOUGAL 61, WOODLAND 40 — Holden Bea scored 14 points, Alex Frost added 13 points and the Panthers finished strong for a 2A GSHL road win.

Washougal outscored Woodland 15-4 in the fourth quarter to snap a four-game losing streak. The Panthers improved to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in league play.

Brett Martynowicz scored 10 points to lead Woodland (4-12, 2-9).

RIDGEFIELD 63, HUDSON’S BAY 38 — Colten Castro scored 19 points, making six 3-pointers as the Spudders earned a 2A GSHL road win.

Cole Chester scored 18 points and Jamison McCann added 14 points for Ridgefield (10-5 overall, 8-3 2A GSHL).

Leading 25-20 at halftime, the Spudders outscored Hudson’s Bay 24-5 in the third quarter. Castro had three of Ridgefield’s six 3-pointers in the quarter.

Rafael Bauman scored 25 points to lead Hudson’s Bay.
