Letter: Don’t fight climate change

By J. David Zimmerman, Washougal
Published: January 23, 2024, 6:00am

It is apparent that the effort of us mere mortals to combat climate change is like fighting a forest fire with a squirt gun and with about the same odds of success. The Bible tells us that our world has an expiration date and it has a much better record for accuracy in predicting future events than the scientists do.

It describes a day “in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat and the earth and its works will be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10-13). As with climate change we can’t prevent it, but we can prepare for it. We would be wise to pay more attention to preparation rather than continue to waste time and resources shoveling sand with a pitchfork.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
