Seven people were taken to area hospitals Sunday after a Portland woman crashed into pickups that were waiting for lane closures to make road repairs on Interstate 5 near the Clark County Fairgrounds.

Washington State Patrol troopers responded at 9:51 p.m. to the crash at I-5 north near 179th Street.

A Chevrolet Impala, driven by Yupada Fontung, 33, of Portland drifted into the right shoulder and crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped on the right shoulder. The Silverado then struck a Ford F-250, according to a State Patrol crash memo.

The driver of the Silverado, Valerie L. Bergmann, 20, and her passengers Bethany J. Blankenship, 40, and Jeremy Poston, 40, all of Vancouver, were taken to local hospitals for injuries. The driver of the Ford, Jason P. Lattig, 47, and his passengers, Brandon J. McGraw, 21, and Josh Thielbar, 33, all of Vancouver, were also taken to hospitals, the State Patrol said.

Fontung was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for injuries, and investigators referred charges of DUI and vehicular assault. The crash memo states drugs or alcohol were factors.
