Letter: Follow Kimsey’s example

Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey in his letter (“Kimsey clarifies editorial,” Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 6) stated that he no longer identifies with the Republican Party. He is now an independent because “members of the Republican Party attempted to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power in 2020 and have pushed for more restrictive voting laws to support the false accusation that the election was stolen. The Republican National Committee described the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrectionists as ‘ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.’”

Why are we not seeing more statements like this from prominent people in our area who once or still identify with the Republican Party? Leaving such uncertainty in their position invites suspicion that they, too, believe the events of Jan. 6, 2021, were merely part a routine exercise in political discourse, and not a violent riot intent on subverting our government.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
