For the first time in days, Clark County wasn’t under a winter weather watch or warning from the National Weather Service. That doesn’t mean all the snow and ice is gone, especially in rural areas and the Columbia River Gorge, but with Vancouver hitting 38 degrees today, Southwest Washington could be back to normal by the weekend.
The forecast for tonight into Saturday morning is breezy, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Rain isn’t back into the forecast until Saturday afternoon but with highs in the low 40s, there’s little chance of more ice.. The low tonight will hover around freezing.
School districts in Clark County are closed today, turning the Martin Luther King Day long weekend into a week-long holiday. Many districts will need to add days to the school calendar to make up for the unexpected vacation.
Most C-Tran routes are back to normal after the ice made for challenging operations this week, including all routes in downtown Vancouver being suspended at one point. Routes 9 and 41 are suspended and Turtle Place remains closed. Get specifics and updates at c-tran.com.
NWS Portland said Thursday on Twitter that it “measured 0.20″ of new ice today at our office in NE Portland. Freezing rain over the past 3 days has accumulated between 0.75 to 0.90″ of ice!”

Traction tires are still required for all vehicles on state Highway 14 in both directions from Milepost 18 near Gibbons Creek to Milepost 65 near Hood River Bridge Road.
City of Vancouver offices reopened at noon today. Clark County offices are closed to in-person services. Other municipal offices around Southwest Washington may be closed to in-person services. Check websites or social media before venturing out.
Court Clark County Superior Court was closed today to in-person services except for the juvenile offender docket at 9 a.m. and the adult first appearance docket at 1:30 p.m. Clark County District Court also is closed to in-person services, although all dockets will be held virtually via Zoom.
