Winterhawks dump Kamloops in matinee hockey matchup

Miller, Stefan have big games in 7-1 victory

PORTLAND — Four points from Ryan Miller and three from James Stefan paced a potent Portland offense as the Winterhawks downed the Kamloops Blazers 7-1 on Monday afternoon.

Miller had a goal and three assists, while Stefan had two goals and an assist for the Winterhawks (26-10-2-1), who have recorded points in seven straight games and 12 of their last 13 (11-1-1-0 in that span).

Portland had a four-goal first period with Josh Davies, Gabe Klassen, Miller and Luca Cagnoni scoring.

Stefan netted his second of the game at 8:53 into the second period, and Miller scored early in the third period for a 6-0 advantage.

Kamloops got on the scoreboard at 6:22 of the third.

Diego Buttazzoni put in the final Portland goal with 28 seconds to play.

Nick Avakyan stopped 23 of 24 Kamloops shots for his sixth win in his last seven starts.

UP NEXT

The Winterhawks hit the road for five games starting Wednesday at Kelowna before heading north to Prince George on Friday and Saturday.
