Letter: Fireworks costly to taxpayers

By Jess Rubenstein, Vancouver

I sit here trying to figure out what exactly the benefits are in allowing fireworks in Clark County. A few companies make money and every time the subject is brought before the Clark County Council, we are told how many charities would suffer if the selling of fireworks were banned.

Here is what I do know: it costs the taxpayers every time a Clark County fire department is dispatched to answer a firework-related call. It costs the taxpayer every time their property is damaged by fireworks. It costs Clark County taxpayers every time the sheriff’s office is called when fireworks users decide that the allowed time to use fireworks is for everyone but them.

So, I ask our local politicians why they sit on their hands and make the citizens continue to put up with all the fireworks in Clark County?

Or it is time to find politicians who listen to the voters of this county and put them in office? The current ones take the rest of us and our votes for granted.
