The Clark County Commission on Aging will focus it efforts in 2024 on emergency preparedness, particularly for people age 50 and older.

The commission is dedicating eight of its monthly meetings to increasing awareness about what emergency preparedness is and what it can look like on a personal, neighborhood, community and regional level.

The commission has invited experts from Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency to speak on a variety of topics. Members will first discuss the topic, then take questions from the audience.

Sessions include: Jan. 17, Introduction to “Prepare in a Year” plan; March 20, How to Create Your Emergency Kit; April 17, Share Our Emergency Kits; May 15, Create a Plan; June 19, Storing Water and Supplies; July 17, Know Your Neighborhood; Aug. 21, Know Your Community; and Oct. 16, Alerts and Warnings.

Commission meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month, at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver. Meetings are held in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual attendance options and are broadcast live on CVTV channel 23/323 and online at www.cvtv.org.
