A big first half helped the Fort Vancouver boys basketball team to an 83-55 2A Greater St. Helens League victory over rival Hudson’s Bay on Monday.
The Trappers (4-9, 2-6 2A GSHL) led 19-10 after the first quarter and then outscored the Eagles 21-4 in the second en route to the win.
Fort made 29 field goals that included 13 3-pointers.
Josiah Jointer scored a game-high 19 points for the Trappers with four 3s. Liam Cvitkovich added 15 points, also with four 3s.
Hudson’s Bay (2-10, 0-8) was led in scoring by Rafael Bauman, who had 14 points. Noah David was also in double figures with 10 points.
RIDGEFIELD 61, WOODLAND 44 — Cole Chester scored 16 points, Colten Castro added 14 points and the Spudders won their fifth straight 2A GSHL game.
Ridgefield (7-4, 5-2 2A GSHL) took control in the second quarter. The visiting Spudders outscored the Beavers 24-11 to take a 39-18 lead into halftime.
Jam Jeschke scored 13 points to lead Woodland (4-9, 2-6).
Girls basketball
HUDSON’S BAY 56, BATTLE GROUND 29 — Alana Stephens made 14 field goals on her way to a game-high 32 points as the Eagles (7-3) rolled in the non-league game at Battle Ground. Stephens had 17 points at halftime.
Teammate Miranda Gonzalez added 14 points, scoring her points in the first three quarters.
Marissa Loveall scored eight points, and Ella Horst seven for the Tigers (3-9).
TIMBERLINE 77, KELSO 42 — Freshman Hayden Johnson scored 12 points as the short-handed Lassies fell at home to one of the state’s top Class 3A teams.
Timberline, No. 3 in the 3A state RPI rankings, improved to 12-0. Shay Cordis scored 12 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter as the Blazers jumped to a 24-6 lead.
Kelso stayed close by outscoring Timberline 12-3 in the second quarter. But Timberline pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Lassies 24-9.
Ellie Treadway had nine points and eight rebounds for Kelso (7-7). Starting forward Kenzie Milligan missed the game with an ankle injury suffered in Thursday’s game against Evergreen.
