Just an observation from a person who would love to see express transit service from the Vancouver Mall Transit Center to downtown and the waterfront. Taking your car to the city is simply going to become a worse proposition in the future as we experience rapid growth in Clark County.
I don’t go to the theater or restaurants in the city as much as I’d like. Parking is so limited and the long, dark winters only underscore the fact that walking in the rain to these businesses isn’t worth it when we can go to places where parking is easily available.
Seattle’s Metro service takes one (nonstop) from the suburbs to Pike Place Market, Seattle Center, the waterfront, etc. Without that service Seattle would be a very difficult place to visit and the merchants understand that. So, where is the business pressure on our transit system that would allow C-Tran to begin express service (at least on the weekends) to our fast-growing city and its restaurants and bars, the Magenta Theater, the Waterfront Vancouver, Uptown Village, etc.?
Transit competes with cars. It wasn’t supposed to be there for those without cars, it is supposed to get us out of our cars.
