Washington State Department of Health seeks students for radon poster contest

The Washington State Department of Health is looking for students to help raise awareness about the dangers of radon gas by participating in the 2024 Northwest Radon Poster Contest.

Radon — a colorless, odorless, tasteless naturally occurring radioactive gas — can build up in both new and old homes. Testing is the only way to know if a home has radon. Long-term exposure to radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers.

Students ages 9 to 14 in Idaho, Oregon and Washington are eligible to participate. Only one entry per student.

The deadline to submit a poster is 11:59 p.m. Feb. 28. First, second and third prizes will be selected from each state. A $300 regional grand prize winner will be selected from the winning submissions. Winners will be announced by March 28. For poster contest rules and topics, visit the Northwest Radon Poster Contest website.
