Letter: City should look at Fourth Plain site

By Mark Muenster, VANCOUVER

The city of Vancouver is apparently considering sites for a new Safe Stay Community or a safe parking zone for people who are living in their automobiles. The city should consider acquiring by eminent domain, or leasing, the property at Fourth Plain Boulevard and Kauffman Avenue for either purpose.

Once upon a time, this property was the site of a grocery store and strip mall, but it has been empty, except for one coffee spot, for at least a decade. Since the New Seasons grocery store chose a spot closer to downtown, this location would be ideal for safe housing or a safe parking zone. It clearly is in a mixed commercial/industrial zone and right on a transit route.
