Letter: Problems show in bowl game

The Oregon State-Notre Dame game at the Sun Bowl demonstrates what is wrong with college football today. After both teams earned the right to play in this prominent postseason game, key players including the two starting quarterbacks and even the coach of Oregon State decided to not participate. Some say the reason for refusal is because of concern for injury. That did not seem to be a problem during the regular season.

While bowl games are designed to determine who is best for the year, it is also a time for the fan base to root on their favorite team or player. If the fan base refuses to attend bowl games because players will not play, or even watch it at home, revenue from ticket sales and TV rights will disappear. It seems now it is all about money and that may be the end of college football support.
