Siena Brown set the Hockinson girls basketball single-game scoring record with 39 points and added 10 rebounds and five steals on Wednesday, but the Hawks came up short in Longview, falling to Mark Morris 69-61 in the 2A Greater St. Helens League matchup.

“We withstood a barrage of baskets by Siena Brown to hang on and win,” Mark Morris coach Sean Atkins said. “It felt like she couldn’t miss tonight.”

Brown had 25 points at the half to keep the Hawks (3-8, 1-6) in the game, down just 42-37.

The Monarchs (6-3, 4-2) couldn’t shake the Hawks until the fourth quarter.

Reese Johnston made a 3-pointer to break a tie in the fourth quarter, and then Natalie Meija got a rebound-putback to put Mark Morris ahead by five with 1:30 to play.

“We played solid defense and made a few more free throws to salt the game away,” Atkins said.

In fact, free throws were the difference as each team made the same number of field goals and 3s — 24 in total.

Mark Morris was 13 of 23 from the line, while Hockinson made 7 of 11.

“I’m super proud of our inexperienced Hawks, showing improvement in every game this season,” Hockinson coach Damon Roche said. “We will keep on polishing ourselves up.”

WOODLAND 68, R.A. LONG 35 — Three Woodland players scored in double figures as the Beavers snapped a four-game losing streak and ended R.A. Long’s two-game win streak.

Addi Stading led the Beavers (5-6, 3-3) in scoring with 24 points to go with six rebounds and three steals.

Kennedy Bockert had a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Lainey Haden had 14 points plus five rebounds and four steals. Jenna Starr added seven rebounds and four points as well.

R.A. Long’s Breyelle Box led her team with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals. Alauna Brown and Bri Garwood scored eight points each. Brown also had six assists, and Garwood seven steals, four assists and two blocks.

WASHOUGAL 57, FORT VANCOUVER 20 — Jenna Klopman scored 15 points to lead all scorers as the Panthers beat visiting Fort Vancouver.

Klopman was the only player in double figures in the game. Bella and Landy Albaugh each added eight points for Washougal (6-6, 4-3 2A GSHL).
