Boys basketball: La Center wins Trico League opener at Stevenson, 79-73

The La Center Wildcats boys basketball team overcame a big game from Stevenson’s Kacen Bach to win 79-73 in the 1A Trico League opener Wednesday in the Gorge.

La Center (3-8, 1-0) was 17 of 24 from the free-throw line including 11 for 12 in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Bach led all scorers with 32 points, making 7 of 13 3-point attempts, to go with nine rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Austin Nixon’s 19 points led four La Center players in double figures. Anthony Larkin and Logan Rainey each scored 17, and Jayce Grotte had 12.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 62, CASTLE ROCK 33 — Ryan Tyler scored 12 of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Knights won the 1A Trico League opener for both teams.

Jaydon Hall scored his 14 points in the first half, and Cade Erwin added 11 for King’s Way (5-6, 1-0).

Trevor Rogen led Castle Rock (2-8, 0-1) with 19 points, and Owen Langdon had 10.

SETON CATHOLIC 74, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 42 — The Cougars used a balanced attack to win the 1A Trico League opener over the visiting Bruins and halt a two-game losing streak.

Seton (5-5, 1-0) was led in scoring by Kaiden Wilson’s 16 points. He was one of four Cougars in double figures followed by Lance Lee with 13 points and Tyler Tran and Rico George with 11 each.

Hunter Wang led Columbia (3-8, 0-1) with 18 points. The Bruins have lost six in a row.
