Letter: Know who is behind the GOP

By Michael Seitzinger , Vancouver

If you are not a billionaire or millionaire, you may want to look at who is running the Republican Party. The Heritage Foundation, a think tank funded by a number of billionaires whose objective is to preserve their money, scripts everything the GOP does. It is financed by large sums of “dark money.”

The society provides GOP presidents with lists of acceptable appointees and judicial candidates. Acceptable is determined by loyalty to the society and its objectives, not qualifications. Qualifications are not necessary as these will be puppets of the society operating with lists of provided talking points. The society also provides large sums of money to candidates who are loyalists. Just look at the dysfunctional Republicans in the House of Representatives.

The society is not the friend of a working person but of corporations and billionaires. They want to roll back health care including Medicare, worker protection legislation, worker rights, environmental protection, to name a few. Their objective is to dismantle many of the regulations that protect us; e.g. clean water, food and drug standards, workplace safety.

When the Trump tax cuts took effect, corporations and the top 1 percent were the big winners. They may give you a token benefit but the true winners will always be the rich.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
