Letter: Freedoms at stake

By Richard Gill , Vancouver

There has been much discussion recently about the potential threat to democracy posed by a second Trump presidential term. Losing democracy would be bad enough, but even worse would be the erosion of personal freedoms that depend on the existence of democracy. This includes the prospect of increased government intrusion into people’s personal lives. When liberties are swept aside, they may be forever lost.

The overriding question seems to be: Does America want Joe Biden, who would continue to faithfully serve as president, according to the Constitution, or does America want Donald Trump, whose role models seem to be the likes of authoritarians such as Vladimir Putin?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
