Boys roundup: Skyview holds off Battle Ground as top scorers put on a show

Skyview’s Demaree Collins and Battle Ground’s Trey Spencer put on a shooting show Tuesday as the Storm held off the Tigers 66-61 in the 4A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball game.

Collins made all six of his 3-point attempts including four in the second quarter as Skyview (5-6 overall, 1-0 4A GSHL) took a 39-25 lead into halftime.

Collins was also 7 for 9 from the free-throw line including 7 of 7 in the fourth quarter while finishing 10 of 16 from the field for 33 points.

Spencer had a 10-point first quarter on his way to a game high 35 points as Battle Ground (4-7, 1-1) fought back on its home court to make a game of it.

The Storm led 55-39 with 7:44 to play in the game when the Tigers went on a 12-0 run to get within 55-51 with just under four minutes to play.

Battle Ground was able to take its first lead since 4-3 in the first quarter at 57-56 with 2:52 remaining.

Collins’ basket on the next possession put Skyview back in front to stay at 58-57 though Battle Ground did get within one with 30 seconds play.

Collins iced the game from the free-throw line, making three in a row with 16 seconds left to keep Skyview in front, 63-59. He also make the last two of the game after a Battle Ground basket made it a three-point game with four ticks left on the clock.

CAMAS 71, UNION 33 — A 24-2 second quarter propelled the Papermakers to a dominant road win to open 4A Greater St. Helens League play.

Four Camas players scored in double figures led by Beckett Currie’s 19-point outing. Matthew Sitler added 17 points, Ethan Harris scored 13 points and Jace VanVoorhis chipped in 11 points.

Kody Holcomb paced the Titans with 12 points, which included three 3-pointers in the first quarter.

KELSO 77, HERITAGE 46 — Hayden Yore scored 25, points, Payton Stewart added 12 points and the Hilanders cruised to a 3A GSHL home win.

R.A. LONG 66, WOODLAND 48 — The Lumberjacks pulled away for a 2A GSHL home win by outscoring the Beavers 21-6 in the fourth quarter.

Rhet Young led R.A. Long with 17 points. Lonnie Brown Jr. and TraMayne Jenkins each added 13 points.

Lucas Logan scored 18 points and Sam Jeschke added 13 points for the Beavers.

FORT VANCOUVER 61, WASHOUGAL 39 — Isaiah Barajas scored 27 points as the Trappers won their first 2A GSHL game of the season by knocking off Washougal.

Fort (3-8, 1-5) held Washougal (4-6, 3-3) to 18 points in the second half.

Barajas made four 3-pointers out of his 11 field goals.

Liam Cvitkovich added 15 points — all on 3-pointers — for the Trappers.

Holden Bea scored 20 points for Washougal.

MARK MORRIS 73, HOCKINSON 50 — Braydon Olson scored a game-high 24 points to become the all-time scoring leader for the Monarchs in the 2A GSHL victory at Hockinson.

Olson passed former teammate Kobe Parlin, who is now averaging 18.7 points a game as a member of the Lower Columbia men’s basketball team, at the top of the Mark Morris list.
