1B boys: Fourth-quarter run leads Wellpinit to 70-51 win over Columbia Adventist

Kodiaks face Moses Lake Christian in loser-out game on Friday

No. 2 seed Wellpinit scored 16 unanswered points to open the fourth quarter and pulled away from Columbia Adventist 70-51 in a Class 1B boys basketball state quarterfinal game Thursday at Spokane Arena.

Columbia Adventist will face Moses Lake Christian in a loser-out game Friday at 10:30 a.m.

The 16th-seeded Kodiak played the defending 1B state champions tight for three quarters. Columbia Adventist took a 40-38 lead with 4:20 left in the third quarter on basket by Caleb Payne.

But Wellpinit scored the first 16 points of the fourth quarter to take a 66-46 lead. Evan Akrawi’s basket with 2:22 left ended the drought for Columbia Adventist.

Tristan White had a big game inside for the Kodiaks, leading the team with 16 points. Collin Delaney added 14.
