Letter: Thoughts for presidential primary

By Ralph C. Edwards, VANCOUVER
Published: February 28, 2024, 6:00am

This is intended to help you to prepare for voting in the Washington State Presidential Primary:
1. The insurrectionists of Jan. 6, 2021, must be kept off U.S. election ballots forever (currently under review by the U.S. Supreme Court).
2. Convicted sexual assaulters should not be able to run for elected offices (an extension to the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is needed).
3. “Citizen” Donald Trump is now being viewed by other countries as a “scab” on America.
4. Peace is not an absence of war. It is a virtue, a state of mind. A disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice. (A statement attributed to Baruch Spinoza, Dutch philosopher in 1600s.)
5. Democratic government requires compromise, and voting.
6. Abortion is a female health topic that requires education and discussion.
7. International trade aids international peace.
8. Make America Great Again; Make Lying Wrong Again.
9. Continue U.S. and NATO support to Ukraine.
10. Trump seems to be guided by Hitler’s actions in 1932 Germany.
11. No “royalty” allowed in U.S.
12. A person who owes $500 million to the courts surely does not have time to be president of the U.S.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
