Letter: Sleep studies need support

By Dr. Marlene Dietrich , VANCOUVER
Published: February 24, 2024, 6:00am

Medicaid reimbursement rates for overnight sleep studies are terrible and below the cost of running a study. Due to low payments, some facilities refuse to participate in Medicaid, increasing the patient volumes for those that do.

Our overnight sleep lab in Vancouver has had to close altogether due to poor reimbursements, leaving us with only the home-testing option, which is not appropriate for the sickest patients. This has left very limited options in Vancouver for Medicaid patients who need in-lab studies, and has created severe hardship for all the other patients, who now must be referred elsewhere. This is a totally unacceptable scenario.

Support a solution and support HB 2476 and SB 6309 now in the Legislature.
